A Tentative Return To Normalcy

Disney Phased Reopening

Hello fellow travelers,

As the world re-awakens again from its COVID-19 induced slumber, it is such a breath of fresh air get out and do something that feeds your happiness receptors.  What better way to help you combat your blues than going to the happiest place on earth!

Disney Springs Water Tower
As many of you know, Walt Disney World is going through a re-opening phase, which started with opening Disney Springs at 50% capacity.   Today, we were incredibly fortunate to be able to go to Disney Springs as they embraced us with a big Welcome Back.  I wanted to share our experiences so that those who are planning to go to Disney Springs can get an idea of what it is currently like.  There is no question however, that ALL of Disney’s cast members are putting forth their best efforts to make all their guests feel comfortable and right at home.  So, for that, I want to begin by saying THANK YOU to ALL of the Cast Members at Walt Disney World Parks!

Ok, so back to my experiences….

Getting there

As part of their re-opening phase, Disney Parks are taking the health and safety of their guests very seriously.  As you park your car, (we parked in the Orange parking lot) there will only be one entrance into the actual car garage. (The ramps are closed).  My guess is to keep track of all cars/guests that will be entering the park.  Since they only want a limited capacity of visitors to comply with CDC guidelines, they are heavy monitoring how many guests they are letting in.

You will need to wear a mask

You will be required to wear a mask (guests 3 yrs and older), along with all cast members while visiting Disney Springs.  You will always need to wear them on your face (covering your mouth and your nose) while walking around, excepting your time at a dining table, of course.

Your temperature will be checked

As you make your way to enter Disney Springs, you will follow the signs to the temperature screening area. An Advent Health worker will be waiting for you and do a very quick temperature scan using a No-Contact Digital Thermometer. Anyone displaying a temperature of 100.4 degrees or higher will need to be re-screened and possibly not able to be admitted (nor those in their party).

Physical Distancing & Capacity Measures

As you enter Disney Springs, you will see signs and/or markings showing guests were to stand at an appropriate distance while waiting to go into a store or restaurant. They also are limiting the number of guests that can visit the property to allow ample distance between guests per CDC guidelines. My advice for this; is get to Disney Springs early enough to not have to worry about all the crowds.

Cleanliness Standards

I can tell you from my own observations, Disney is ON IT when it comes to sanitizing/cleaning. The incredible cast members were constantly sanitizing all areas. You couldn’t walk very far without seeing someone cleaning and disinfecting benches, tables, restrooms, escalators and every other detail you can think of. Not to mention the availability of hand washing and hand sanitizer stations available.

No cash transactions please

Although this does not affect me personally since I typically use a card, Disney is highly encouraging cashless payment options to help mitigate contact.

We Heal Together

Remember, Disney is taking every precaution necessary to ensure that ALL guests have a great experience and by doing so they are truly taking every precaution necessary.  We are all in this together!

Final Thoughts

Maybe it was the green grass, the flowers, or the beautiful sunny day but it felt so incredible to be able to walk around Disney Springs. After all the trauma so many have endured, it’s so amazing to see Disney bringing back all the magic. As you walk around, you will see new restaurants and shops that are coming as well as some of your old favorites! The happiness that was being displayed from cast members and guests was the only thing that felt contagious. It was such a remarkable feeling to recapture all of Disney’s magical moments and remind us there will always be a great big beautiful tomorrow.
